Even if you don’t like reading, you should come to Magers & Quinn. The Uptown bookseller has been around since 1994 and is now one of the largest independent booksellers in the midwest.
Owner Denny Magers, situated in the import/export business, always had a love for books and after his travels throughout the world kept exposing him to first editions and rare and collectible books, he allowed his love of reading to become a business. Magers and Quinn started small and soon began expanding as local artists, readers, and Minnesota youth started visiting the shop.
It started with simply owning a part of the building where the store is currently situated. With all of the expansion, M & Q now owns all three floors of the building. With new releases continuously coming into the store, Magers & Quinn is unique to the area for their large collection of rare and hard-to-find collections and editions among which you’ll find entries from Frank Baum, W.H. Davies, Walt Whitman and even Agatha Christie’s Appointment with Death (First Edition).
Along with the rare collection, there are hundreds of categories and thousands of authors and titles that their friendly staff are not only extremely knowledgeable about but enthusiastic about, sharing their personal favorites as well as backgrounds of their favorite authors to help tell the story behind the story, which of course we personally like.
Walking through the rows we like to look at the different book jackets, grab a spot on the floor and read the first 10 pages of a lesser-known volume or dive straight in with a new book from one of our favorite authors--David McCullough would be our first stop.
Often having readings and events, Magers & Quinn is fostering a community around books that is slowly beginning to equal their impressive inventory. Give it a look and walk out with a book.
