We like a good hot dog. Unashamed, we are seeking out the best dogs we can at all times and you know when we visit Chicago, a proper dog is the first thing on our mind. Hell, in college hot dogs were a regular thing amongst us and when we really had a few extra bucks to splurge with, we might actually be able to add mustard.
So it’s with little need for the imagination to understand why we would like a place called Uncle Franky’s in NE Mpls (a second location also exists in Plymouth). What we’ll proclaim the finest Chicago dog in the Twin Cities, the authenticity from the beef dog to the hot peppers to the green relish and mustard (don’t ask for ketchup) gets us every time.
An unimposing street level dive, Franky’s offers all of the classics including a Philly Cheesesteak, New York deli style pastrami and malts and shakes that make the brain freeze actually feel good.
Inside you have your fryer, your flat top, your cook with a Twins hat and a board of wonders, filled with all of the specials and extras you can get on fries, tots and more. No number systems here. They don’t take down your name. But you always know when your order is ready and when it is you do all you can to restrain yourself from looking like an animal in front of strangers.
