What are we Guy Fieri?
No. No. No. No.
No one would want to be considered a Guy. Well maybe dude bros, but that’s not us. However, we do agree with where Mr. Fieri eats and we’re constantly scouting dives in the Twin Cities. The greasy spoon sort of place that couldn’t be considered pretentious even if a yacht club hosted their get togethers there.
Such a place exists and, shocker, it’s in Northeast Minneapolis. Spring Street Tavern is the place and it’s the type of brunch we like. You can keep your eggs benedict and mimosas on a nice white plate with a cloth napkin that’s never been used. We’ll have the breakfast burrito the size of our heads and the bloody marys that are basically vodka with a splash of tomato juice. It’s also a make your own bloody bar so go ahead, put in 2 pickles instead of one. Like pepperoni? Let those babies float on top or skewer ‘em up with your olives. We like choice. You like choice.
Now we’re not against a nice kitchy and sexy looking brunch but we’d also argue there isn’t much sexier than a plate of scratch made biscuits cascaded with hearty sausage gravy, a side of crispy hash browns and a couple of fried eggs.
Go alone or go with a group. We always elect to take our good friends and like to make more when we arrive (Cheers to the people we asked for extra silverware and chairs from the last time we were there. As we said then, you deserve a sainthood).
We are just talking breakfast here but go anytime of day. They’ve been voted the best wings in the city and they post their daily drink deals right above the bar. The place is pretty much open year round, so there’s never a bad time to stop in.
Hell, who knows, maybe Guy Fieri will walk in someday and you can ask him how to get your ticket to Flavor Town.
