You know when you have something and it’s just good? You order a meal, expecting it not to suck, but then you bite into it and find yourself saying, “Damn, that’s good.” That’s what we’ve found in Salut Bar Americain on Grand Ave. in St. Paul (also found in Edina).
We’re no strangers to Grand. You’ve seen our posts on here from this wonderful street many a time and it’s for good reason. There is a never ending stream of fantastic people watching and a wealth of things to do. Salut is one of those things to do and we highly recommend it.
As you’ve already seen pictured above, we had their garlic shrimp and the frog legs, fried to perfection in a crispy and airy batter. We posted up to the bar with these delights, ashamedly not having frog legs before this moment, and had that very experience of “Damn, that’s good.”
Not pictured, because it looked so good that we dove in and forgot to get a picture before it was devoured, is the classic Duck A L’Orange. Perfectly seared duck with baby carrots, leeks, and potatoes swimming in a brandy-orange reduction. Let’s put it this way, we felt like we were stealing it for the price.
Their wine list is phenomenal here and well-priced. We went for the house No. 1 red, the cheapest on the menu, and then went for the No. 2 red right after. They are delightfully drinkable and pair with any item you grab on this menu.
The ambiance is welcoming. A large patio out front that can fit what looks like 50-75 people is great for summer evenings but we sit at the bar a lot as well. It’s less crowded and, with the fantastic service provided by the staff, you feel more special there.
We could recommend anything else here. You know what we had, now go try your own. Either way, you’ll be saying, “Damn, that’s good.”
