Our rule? Eat food next to a body of water whenever you can. That’s what we like about the Longfellow Grill. It’s neighboring the Mississippi at the corner of the Lake St and the River Parkway.
That being said the indoors of this place is just as interesting as the outdoors. The beer selection is superb with one of the few places in the cities where you can get Freehouse Beer, which is also one of the many restaurants that David Burley and Stephanie Shimp own, starting Freehouse eight years after The Longfellow got started. There is also a good foursome of house cocktails to which we find our favorite to be the Earl Grey Rye Old Fashioned.
We’ll typically stop by here on a weekend. Maybe it’s breakfast, maybe it’s lunch but either way it’s good and we like to pair it with one of our favorite brews.
Stop in the morning and you’ll find classics like the breakfast burrito or biscuits and gravy, (which we recommend by the way) but you’ll also find lesser known greats like the red velvet waffle or churro fried toast, a favorite of those with a sweet tooth.
In the afternoon grab one of their staples to accompany your beer. We go with the turkey burger more often than not. It’s award winning by the way. We also like to grab some crab cakes to share with friends or down ourselves.
So find yourself here to find some drinks that are as strong as the Mississippi and food that’s as bold as the people who traversed her.
