Aldous Snow would like George & The Dragon. Here, he could easily hop across the pond, sing about his beloved bangers, beans and mash and then sit in a comfy booth at the little restaurant on W 50th Street in Minneapolis and go to town on his favorite dish.
You’d be right to like it here too. An old, English style pub that began in 2012, George & The Dragon started on the foundation of a relaxed environment where you can sit with family and friends and enjoy delicious food without the stuffiness.
The beer list here is more focused. Rather than having one hundred taps, Mr. Miller, the head guy at George, keeps it local and classical. You’ll find your traditional Fulton Lonely Blonde or Surly Furious, two options ubiquitous with our region, but you’ll also find English pub classics like Old Speckled Hen on nitro.
Mr. Miller is also unique in that he has a small selection of bombers for sale and always has “Mr. Miller’s Pick” on draft, which you’ll just have to ask your server about because it’s probably good.
The food is equally focused and hearty. The bangers and mash are excellent but we also found the Asian Hangover to be stellar. For sandwiches, you’d be a fool to pass up the Beef Rib Toastie.
Finally, apart from the food and drink, the service is phenomenal here. Our server had been a regular at George & The Dragon before striding in to ask for a job. She liked it that much and it was beyond evident in her recommendations and general knowledge about the pub.
This one is a can’t miss!
