We recently had some friends in town. We wanted to take them to a place where the beer was good and cold, where they could get something upscale like oysters but also something nice and homey like a burger. Some place with a patio, with a social atmosphere, a place you wouldn’t want to leave so long as you weren’t talking about work, or the presidential election or taxes.
Would such a place exist we even wondered? It does, because we found it. It does, becauseThe Freehouse lives in Minneapolis.
It’s got the same owners as a few of our other favorite places, that you’ll probably find on A Look Into sooner or later in the likes of The Lowry, Longfellow Grill and The Blue Barn. What makes Freehouse great to us is their menu and the sheer variety evoked from it. No matter what your tastes, or in our case, the taste of our friends, they’ll find something they like here. There truly is something for everybody.
You always get drinks first at a restaurant, so let’s start there shall we? We are fans of beer, as I’m sure you know, and we find the stout, also known as No. 4, to be one of the best we’ve had on tap anywhere in the Twin Cities. It’s the perfect amount of roast and chocolate flavor that made us want to order nothing else.
The food, as we’ve already mentioned is outstanding. There’s bone marrow, ceviche and tartare but there is also seafood mac & cheese, fish n chips and a whole mess of burgers. We grabbed oysters and the trout dip. Two appetizers that we’d get again and recommend in a heartbeat.
C’mon over here. Get the stout.
