“There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
― Ernest Hemingway
Old Ernie had it right. When there is something you need to grasp onto to educate and pacificate, there is nothing better than the proper book. While you could stroll through the Barnes & Nobles of this world, we like a bookshop that is a bit more personal. A place where you find the perfect book on the shelf and sit down right there on the floor to start the journey.
That place, is the Red Balloon Bookshop on Grand.
Cozy would be a perfect way to describe this shop but there are so many other adjectives to offer about it. Wondrous, engaging, charming and whimsical. Why? Because this place isn’t just for adults. Kids and teens have a great selection to choose from and if you’re like us, you tend to gravitate over to the kids section anyway to relive your past through the pages that showed us how hungry caterpillars were or what will happen if you give a mouse a cookie.
The staff here is also engaging and charming. Happily talking to children as they walk through the door, inviting characters from their favorite books to stop in, or telling you their favorite tidbit from the book you just purchased as they ring you up, Red Balloon is the type of place you feel at home at. Like dropping your keys in the dish by your front door and just relaxing on the couch.
It’s that feeling that keeps us coming back. Of course the events are great as well. Often featuring writers of all genres, Red Balloon keeps you in the loop on their website’s events page, so be sure to save the date for the next time a talented artist is on display.
